I know its kinda unrelated - but since you have more expertice in encore contender - was wondering if i can post you 2 additional questions. But thanks for the info ill have to check out midway - need to get some additional goodies from them anyhow. For fun, I took the bolts from the 35 barrel and put on the 7-30 and low and behold, it was easier to open.
Bought a 7-30 waters barrel and it was a challenge at times to open.
I started with a old non-easy open contender with a 35 remington barrel. TC Contender/G2 Accuracy Barrel 17 Hornet 24' Blue 1:9 Twist. The bolts that come on the new barrels do fit the old barrels and they do still make them. I dont like leopold mounts either - why i went with badger. Barrels for the Contender and G2 Contender are interchangeable, but not for use with Encore frames. A "6 screw weaver type base" is just the type of thing im looking for - i guess im just used to my big badger ordananance base on my 308 - and as for the weaver style - it merely allows me more options - im a fan of 30mm scope tubes (ganted that not all my scopes will be 30mm - but i just like options). This is a factory Thompson Center Contender and G2 Contender Barrel.
